Zhang Jiang – North America Innovation Center Opening Ceremony in Shanghai

With a joint effort of NACSA, Zhang Jiang High-tech Park (张江高科技园区), and Zhang Jiang Incubator(张江孵化器), the opening ceremony of Zhangjiang – NACSA Innovation Center (张江-北美创新中心) has been successfully held at Zhang Jiang Incubator on August 31, 2010.
About 30 people including current and previous NACSA board directors, NACSA members, and leaders of Zhang Jiang Incubator attended the event. Most of the attendees are returnees (海归), who either started their own companies in the Yangzi River Delta Area (长三角地区) or are executives of well known international high-tech companies in Shanghai.

NACSA Co-chairman Dr. Ge gave a brief introduction of NACSA and NACSA’s major events over the past year. NACSA board director of Alliance also briefly introduced the purpose for building this multi-functional platform with Zhangjiang in Shanghai. General Manager of Zhangjiang Incubator Ms. Huang presented the functions of Zhangjiang Incubator and their supports to the innovation center, which she called a new home for all returnees in the Yangzi River Delta Area.
The event lasted about 3 hours. The next event, a CEO Salon, has been scheduled for later September.>

After our first announcement of 2010 NACSA China Trip, we have received overwhelming responses for participations. As the preparations are underway, we would like to announce more details about the trip.

Tentative Schedule

Dec. 14: Delegates gather at a hotel in Shanghai
Dec. 15: Visit 上海张江高科. Will hold meetings with members of ‘Zhangjiang – NACSA Innovation Center’ and VCs on business opportunities in China.
Dec. 16: Visit 无锡高新区. Exchange information on NACSA-无锡新区海外引才工作站
Dec. 17-20: Visit 镇江高新区, 苏州工业园区(SIP), 太仓
Dec. 21-23: 北京中关村
Members have the option to spend Christmas in China and attend 广州留交会from Dec. 28 to Dec. 30.

Call for Business Plans

If you are interested in joining NACSA 2010 China Trip, it is a requirement to submit your business plan and Bio, in both Chinese and English, along with the application form to chinatrip2010@nacsa.com for consideration. The deadline of the submission is 10/15/2010. The preferred areas are IC design, semiconductor sensor/detector, green tech, semiconductor manufacturing equipments, consumer internet, mobile software, medical devices, wireless and network technologies.

A selection team consisting of NACSA BODs and VC experts will review the business plans, and the applicants will be notified the results on 10/20/2010. For those who are interested in attending 广州留交会, their business plans will be submitted to the specific committee.

Trip Expenses

Participants need to book their own international roundtrip airline tickets according to the trip schedule. NACSA will arrange local transportation, hotel accommodation, and meals in China. A deposit of $1000 (due on 11/15/2010) is required to cover major portion of the expenses. NACSA will help defray the cost whenever possible; however, it is the members’ responsibility to cover all their expenses incurred during the trip.

Pre-trip Seminar

To promote the upcoming China Trip, NACSA will organize a pre-trip seminar on Saturday10/09. During the event, the invited speakers and guests including several delegates in previous China trips will share their experience and insights on how to write a business proposal, how to take effective approaches to secure a government or VC founding. To answer your questions in depth, we have invited attorneys with expertise in intellectual properties, financing, and other fields related to entrepreneurship in China. Details about the pre-trip seminar will be announced shortly. Please reserve your time and be there to benefit from the information-rich seminar to plan your China trip and start your business adventure in China.

A delegation from Taicang city and the port development zone led by vice-mayor Mr. 邱震德 will introduce their culture-rich city, present the latest developments and ”522” Talent Project. They welcome to the meeting with Silicon Valley entrepreneurs and professionals, especially in the clean energy (photovoltaic-solar and wind power), new material, biopharmaceutical and chemical pharmaceutical, and photo-electricity (including LED, TFT-LCD supporting components) industries.

City Taicang got its name from “Emperor’s Granary” 2400 years ago, honored as “Golden Taicang in Silk Southeast China”. As a city subordinate to Suzhou, Taicang is the only one city facing the Yangtze River while bordering Shanghai in Jiangsu Province. Taicang Port has been an important port, from where Zheng He, the great navigator of the Ming Dynasty, started his famous sea voyages seven times and reached over 30 countries and regions as far as Africa.

Building upon the successes in the past, we are excited to announce that NACSA 2010 China Trip is coming. The delegation will visit major technology development centers, first-tier corporations as well as leading research and academic institutions in China. Those carefully selected cities and organizations have long good relationship with NACSA, which ensures high quality business plans will get preferred recommendations and the funding process could be expedited. As a great way to build up business and personal relationships, participants will have wonderful opportunities to carry on direct dialogues with high-ranking government officials, corporate executives, and potential venture investors in China.

Objectives:

• Exchange information first-hand on industry standards, local market trends, and government policies.
• Learn how to secure funding and assistance from local governments.
• Have direct dialogues with high-level business executives and government officials in China on career, business, and investment opportunities.
• Find out how entrepreneurs and executives live and work in China.
• Build long-term relationships with other members in the delegation.

When and Where (Tentative):

The following cities will be targeted for this year’s China Trip:

Dec. 14-20: Shanghai and Yangtze Delta (Suzhou, Wuxi, Zhengjiang, etc.).
Dec. 21-23: Beijing, Tianjin
Dec. 28-30: Members will have the option to attend 广州留交会 after spending Christmas in China

Who Should Apply?

I. High-tech/Green-tech/Auto industry executives/entrepreneurs/professionals who:
• Have genuine interest or business needs to undertake China-related projects
• Are currently seeking market expansion opportunities or tapping into the vast resources in China for growth.
• Are looking for funding for startups, product development, or business initiatives.
• Want simply to learn the various aspects of starting/running a business in China, from local government policy and industry trends to quality of life.

II. Top talents in the areas of high-tech/Green-tech/automotive, finance, marketing, sales,
and accounting who are interested in exploring executive-level (i.e., VP level or above)
career opportunities in China.

Qualifications:

• Applicants must have at least a Master’s degree and/or ten years of working experience in the relevant industries. Exceptions may be made on a case by case basis depending on the merits of the business plans.
• Speak English and/or Chinese.
• Be able to obtain a visa to enter China and return to the US.
• Responsible for arrangement/payment of the international roundtrip airfares and personal spending in China. NACSA will arrange with the hosting cities to help defray the cost incurred in China whenever possible.

Those who are seeking for business opportunities will be required to submit a two-page executive summary of your business plan along with a Bio, both in English and Chinese (templates will be provided).
