In this forum, Mr. LIU Chuanzhi, the world distinguished entrepreneur, will talk about the legendary story of his company Legend Holdings which started from 11 people and 200,000 RMB in 1984, and became a leading Chinese technology company which had successfully acquired IBM PC division in 2005, known as Lenovo today. Legend Holdings is a Giant International Enterprise today with 42,000 employees and over 87 billion RMB in asset, with its subsidiary company Lenovo being one of the top brands and largest OEMs of personal computer in both China and worldwide. When the high tech industry was hit by the financial tsunami of 2008, Mr. LIU came back to the board and rejuvenated Legend with new visions and strategies. Growing over the last two decades in the greatest economic booming in Chinese history, Legend Holdings explored a Chinese way of high tech industrialization. By taking roots in Chinese market, it outstood the foreign competitors and drove the growth of IT industry in China. It has pioneered the reform on enterprise ownership, accomplishing the shareholding restructuring. It has also cultivated younger generations of business leaders and established its own management philosophy and methods with “three key management elements” as its core competitiveness. Today with his great vision and outstanding leadership, Mr. LIU continues to lead his Enterprise beyond the mission of “contributing to the country with industrialization and growth” to achieve further success with more significant global influence.

BIOGRAPHY Liu Chuanzhi is currently Chairman and President of Legend Holdings Ltd., Chairman of the Board of Directors of Lenovo, and Chairman of Legend Capital, Raycom Real Estate and Hony Capital.

He is a deputy to the 16th and 17th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), and a delegate to the 9th, 10th and 11th National People’s Congress (NPC) of China. In addition, he is Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce for Civil Businesses under the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC).

Mr. Liu has received numerous recognitions and awards in China and globally, including: “National Model Worker” in China, “Man of Reform in China”, “Asian Businessman of the Year” (Fortune magazine, 2000), “Top 25 Most Influential Leaders in Business” (Time magazine, 2001), “Most Influential Model Worker since the Founding of New China,” “Business Leader in a Decade of Economic Development in China” (CCTV, 2009),  “Outstanding Individual in Promoting China-US Relations” by The National Committee of US China Relations (NCUSCR) (2005), “Entrepreneur for the World 2010 Award” by the World Entrepreneur Forum, founded co-jointly by EMLYON Business School in France and KPMG (2010), etc.

In 1984, together with ten other colleagues at the Computing Institute under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and an initial capital of only RMB 200,000, Mr. Liu founded The New Technology Development Ltd. of the Computing Institute under CAS, which was the predecessor of Lenovo.

Mr. Liu graduated from the Xidian University (formerly called the Xi’an Military Communications Engineering Institution) in China, and is a certified Senior Engineer.
