New Opportunities and Trend of Semiconductor in China

China Connection, Events on February 8th, 2014 Comments Off on New Opportunities and Trend of Semiconductor in China

 ic_cafe

China is the biggest semiconductor market worldwide reaching 40% share. While it becomes a mature business in Silicon Valley, the semiconductor industry in China is welcoming the 2nd wave ramping up, accompanying with the explosion of the mobile internet applications.

The new leaders of China government have realized the importance of the semiconductor for future economic growth. In fact, China has imported more IC devices than oil in 2012. The new leaders understand that the semiconductor industry is the core of any other high tech industries. Since mid of 2013, expectation has been raised that the China Government will come out new policy to stimulate the semiconductor business in China.

NACSA (North America Chinese Semiconductor Association) and co-organizer CAISS (Chinese American Information Storage Society) with help of IC-Coffee in China have invited Mr. Alex Lin, CEO of Honestar (北高智), the #2 IC distributor in China, to give us a talk on “The Semiconductor Value Chain in China during the Age of Mobile Internet”. We have also invited Ms. Eileen Yan to talk about the China Policy “02 Special Project” (02专项).

If you’re the executive of an IC company, and care about the China market, or if you’re a Chinese professional and wish someday to go back China for new start-up, you should come.

Time: 02/11/2014, Tuesday, 7-9pm.

Address: 1320 Ridder park Drive, San Jose, CA 95131 (LSI, the 100 people conference room).

Semiconductor’s Enabling Roles in the Era of Big Data

NACSA Technical Seminar Series: Semiconductor’s Enabling Roles in the Era of Big Data

Events on October 19th, 2013 Comments Off on NACSA Technical Seminar Series: Semiconductor’s Enabling Roles in the Era of Big Data

Do you know the following facts?

  • The new data that companies and individuals produced and stored in 2010 is equivalents to filling more than 60,000 US Libraries of Congress
  • Netflix video streaming accounts for 32.7% of peak U.S. downstream traffic
  • Electricity used by data centers worldwide increased by about 56% from 2005 to 2010
  • Electricity used in global data centers accounted for more than 1.5% of total electricity use
  • Companies chose to locate their data centers in colder places, like Alaska for lower cooling cost
  • Every minute
    • More than 100 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube. That’s more than four days of video uploaded each minute!
    • Google receives over 2,000,000 search requests
    • Apple has more than 50,000 app downloads
    • Facebook users share over 700,000 contents
    • Twitter users send over 100,000 tweets

The era of big data is upon us. Any time consumers going about their day – communicating, browsing, buying, sharing, searching – create enormous trails of data. The vastly distributed sensors, GPS in smartphones, connected consumer-electronic devices, even in industrial machinery, power plants, pipelines… generate an entirely new category of data. This wave of big data is likely to reshape how business operates.

Optimizing Big Data to propel business opportunities

How this vastly distributed data is collected? How to extract signal from noise in the sea of data? How to make swift smart decision, in real time?  Semiconductor devices play enabling roles. The big wave of big data provides tremendous opportunity for semiconductor players. We invite leading professionals to give insightful perspectives on this growingly important trend. Please come and join us in this event and take the opportunity to network with industry professionals and entrepreneurs. Looking forward to seeing you at the seminar!

Beyond Semiconductor: The New Trend of Technology

Beyond Semiconductor: The New Trend of Technology

Events on March 3rd, 2013 Comments Off on Beyond Semiconductor: The New Trend of Technology

Have you seen Google self-driving car?  Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technologies are providing the vision for a new generation of driverless vehicles. LiDAR, a concept similar to RADAR, uses laser light instead of radio waves.  LiDAR sensors are currently used in a variety of military and commercial autonomous vehicle applications, as well as 3-D mapping, surveying and other applications.

LED technology has advanced to enable broad new applications and exciting opportunities in recent years. Projection LEDs have been engineered to deliver extremely high optical output and to begin replacing mercury discharge lamps with an environmentally friendly, solid-state light source.  Pico-projector design uses color LEDs.  As LEDs are getting brighter and smaller, pico-projectors can become more popular as stand-alone, used in car HUD and infotainment center console or embedded with other products like camcorders and mobile phones. In this seminar, you will get a good understanding of the architecture of a projector engine and the design rules of optimizing LED.

Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery has the promise of the future of power and portability.  Li-ion has the best energy density of commercial power tool batteries, a very slow self-discharge rate up to six times longer than a NiCad, and superior energy to weight ratio.  Li-ion technology is drawing huge interest and investment.  As the quest for small, powerful, long-last, fast-recharging batteries heightens, Li-ion will be in the spotlight.

In 2013, we are one step closer to the greatest new revolution in technology mankind has ever experienced.  In this seminar, we have invited four industry veterans and distinguished speakers: Dr. Juchmann, product marketing manager of Velodyne LiDAR, co-presenters Dr. Andrew Lin, senior product marketing manager of OSRAM and Francis Nguyen, and Dr. Song Han, Senior Director of Technology of Amprius to share with us their extensive experience and visions in the trending technologies, like LiDAR, LED projection, and Li-ion battery.  We cordially invite aspiring professionals to join us at this very interesting technical seminar. Take the opportunity to learn more about the industry trend and its outlook, and mingle with other professionals and entrepreneurs.  Looking forward to seeing you at the seminar !
