Shawn runs the Advanced Tech Ventures group for EMC in the CTO Office. Been in the valley for a while and love technology and helping to building new ventures. Responsible for making investments in Big Data/Analytics, Cloud, Virtualization, Security & Information mgt startups.

Tim Wilson, General Partner, Artiman Ventures

Between 2001 and 2011, Tim was a General Partner at Partech International. He continues to represent Partech and serves on the boards of Invensense (NYSE:INVN), Prysm, Five9s, LedEngin, Array Converter, and Acco Semiconductor. Previous investments include Teknovus (Broadcom) and Ario Data (Xyratek).

Between 1997 and 2001, Tim was the Chief Marketing Officer for Digital Island (NASDAQ: ISLD) a Partech portfolio company. The company was acquired in 2001 for $350M. Prior to Digital Island, Tim was a General Manager at Lucent Technology where he led the international voice communications product management team (now Avaya) with P&L for product lines generating over $2B in annual sales. Before Lucent, Tim held a variety of senior management positions within AT&T (North America and Australia) and AT&T Bell Labs from 1983-1995.

Tim graduated summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Bowdoin College receiving his undergraduate degree in Physics. He received his MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business where he was named a Fuqua Scholar.

Sherman Ting, President and a Board Director of Sand Hill Angels

Sherman has over 25 years of experience in the high technology industry, in engineering, executive management and as an entrepreneur. He is an active investor in start-up ventures.

Most recently, Sherman was Founder and CEO of Century A Technologies, a company which built a marketing/sales/support infrastructure in China, for new breeds of Internet-based enterprise software products designed in the US.

Previously, Sherman was Vice President at Oracle Corporation, where he founded the HP Products Division and grew the business into the number one product line, with over $300M in product license revenue. While at Oracle, he also established the Asia Products Division to spearhead the cultivation of business in the Asia Pacific region, which later became the fastest growing market for Oracle. As a result, Oracle’s Japanese subsidiary experienced one of the most successful high tech IPOs in Japanese history. In addition, Sherman was on the Oracle CEO’s hand-picked team to start up a Network Computer business, to revolutionize how people and businesses use the Internet.

Sherman received an MSE in Computer Science from the University of Pennsylvania

Bill Reichert, Managing Director, Garage Technology Venture

Bill Reichert has over 20 years of experience as an entrepreneur and an operating executive. Since joining Garage in 1998, Bill has focused on early-stage information technology and materials science companies. He sits on the Boards of CaseStack, WhiteHat, ClearFuels, cFares, and ThermoCeramix. Prior to Garage, Bill was a co-founder or senior executive in several venture-backed technology startups, including Trademark Software, The Learning Company, and Academic Systems. Earlier in his career, he worked at McKinsey & Company, Brown Brothers Harriman & Co., and the World Bank. Bill earned a B.A. at Harvard College and an M.B.A. from Stanford University. He was a founding board member and a Chairman of the Churchill Club, and a Charter Member of the Silicon Valley Association of Startup Entrepreneurs. Currently he is the Chairman of the Small Fund Roundtable of the VC Taskforce and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations in New York.

创业人才条件

１、一般应取得硕士以上学位，有海外创业创新工作经验或曾在国际国内知名企业、高校（研究机构）担任过中高层管理职位，熟悉相关领域和国际规则，有经营管理能力。

２、携带技术、项目、资金来镇海创办（领办）高新技术企业或与镇海企业合作开展产业化项目开发，项目具有自主知识产权、技术先进、有良好市场前景、符合镇海产业发展方向并能实施产业化。

３、自有资金（含技术入股）或跟进的风险投资占创业投资的30%以上，或本人投入企业的实收资金在100万元人民币以上。

创新人才条件

１、一般应取得博士学位，引进后每年在镇海工作时间应在6个月以上。

２、在国外著名高校、科研院所担任中、高级专业技术职务，从事重大项目、关键技术或新兴学科的研究工作，或在国际知名企业、高端服务业、金融业等机构中担任中、高级管理或技术职务2年以上，精通相关领域业务和国际规则的专业技术人才或经营管理人才。

３、具备较高的科技创新能力，其研究专业符合我区新材料、信息技术等重点产业发展方向，学术技术成果处于该领域前沿，达到国内领先水平。

创业扶持政策

1、开办费补助：在镇海区注册正常运营的创业项目，给予10万元的开办费补助。

2、创业启动资金资助：分别给予一、二、三类推荐项目不超过500万元、300万元、100万元的创业启动资金无偿资助。

3、创业团队资助：对2名及以上的海外优秀创业团队，每增加1名，创业启动资金增加20万元。

4、生产和办公用房补助：分别给予一、二、三类推荐项目3年内3000、1000、500平方米以内的生产和办公用房或租房补助。

5、生活用房补助：提供100平方米的生活用房或给予1800元/月的住房补贴。

6、贷款贴息补助：给予1000万元以内贷款贴息补助。

7、财政贡献奖励：投产后3年内按企业对地方财政贡献的80%、80%、40%给予奖励。

8、技术入股：以技术成果入股投资的，其作价出资额最高可占注册资本的70%。

创新扶持政策

1、实行易地安家补助：最高300万元的安家补助费。

2、实施政府特殊津贴：每年可享受区政府特殊津贴12万元、8万元、4万元。

3、实施生活补贴：按在镇海工作时间发放生活补贴，每月发放2000-5000元的生活补贴。

4、实行工作津贴：企业高薪聘请的年薪30万元以上的，按其所缴个人所得税地方留成部分的100%，给予工作津贴。

Speaker’s Biographies

Norm Taffe

Senior Vice President, Consumer and Computation Division, Cypress Semiconductor

Norm Taffe is Senior Vice President of the Consumer and Computation Division (CCD) at Cypress. The division designs and develops solutions for many of the world’s leading manufacturers of consumer and computation gear, including mobile phones, tablets, PCs, Digital Still Cameras, Printers, TVs, MP3 players and many other consumer electronics devices.  CCD product offerings include a broad line of user interface solutions for capacitive touch screens, capacitive buttons, and optical navigation and PCtrackpads.  The portfolio includes the market leading TrueTouch^® portfolio ofTouchscreen controllers along with associated software, firmware and sensor design solutions.

Since joining Cypress in 1989, Taffe has held numerous positions of increasing responsibility, including marketing director of the Programmable Logic and Interface Products Divisions, managing director of Cypress’s M&A and venture fund, managing director of the Wireless Business Unit and vice president of the Personal Communications Division.

 Peng Fang, Ph. D.

Chief Executive Officer, JA Solar

Dr. Fang Peng was appointed Chief Executive Officer in January 2010. Dr. Fang joins JA Solar with more than 20 years of executive management experience with leading global technology companies in the solar and semiconductor industries in both the U.S. and China.

Dr. Fang was president of Best Solar Co., Ltd., where he turned a start-up company into an internationally known solar module company in just 18 months. Dr. Fang was formerly president of Huahong NEC, one of the largest semiconductor foundries in China.

Dr. Fang has also held various technology and management positions at Applied Materials and AMD in the U.S. Dr. Fang received his Ph.D and MSEE degrees from the University of Minnesota. He was also a postdoctoral research fellow at the EECS Department of UC Berkeley.

Dr. Fang was chairman of the IEEE Electron Devices Society, Santa Clara Valley Chapter.

Achintya K. Bhowmik, Ph. D.

Director, Perceptual Computing, Intel Corporation

Dr. Achin Bhowmik is the director of perceptual computing at Intel Corporation, where his group is focused on developing next-generation computing solutions based on natural human-computer interaction and visual computing technologies and applications. He assumed this responsibility after serving as the chief of staff and technical assistant to the corporate vice president and general manager of the personal-computer group, Intel’s largest business unit with >$30B revenues in 2010.

Previously, he led the advanced video and display architecture team, responsible for developing power-performance optimized multimedia processing engines for Intel’s computing products.  His prior work includes development of high-definition display systems based on all-digital liquid-crystal-on-silicon microdisplay technology, electro-optic modulation in organic molecular crystals, and integrated optical and photonic circuits for high-speed communication networks. He has been an adjunct professor at the Kyung Hee University in Seoul, Korea, teaching graduate-level classes on digital image processing, optics and display technology. He has >100 publications, including a book titled “Mobile Displays: Technology & Applications” published by Wiley & Sons, and 24 issued patents. He is a winner of the SID Distinguished Paper award. He is a program committee member of SID and IMID, and a senior member of the IEEE. He is associate editor of the Journal of the Society for Information Display, and editor for special volumes on “Advances in OLED Displays” and “Interactive Displays”. He has been a session chair, invited and tutorial speaker at a number of international conferences. He is on the board of directors for OpenCV, the organization behind the open source computer vision library.

Sinclair Vass

Senior Director of Marketing & Business Operations, JDSU

Sinclair Vass, Senior Director of Marketing, is responsible for driving strategic marketing and marcom activities for the communications and commercial optical products group (CCOP) within JDSU .  Sinclair works closely with internal stakeholders as well as with industry experts, analysts and the financial community to define and drive CCOP strategy. He leads major initiatives in the optical communications, commercial lasers, solar and consumer markets. Sinclair previously held the position of Director of Sales for EMEA within JDSU.

Prior to JDSU, Sinclair directed sales activity for New Focus’s European division from 2000 to 2004.  In this position, he managed all business activities associated with the New Focus product lines, and was responsible for driving sales activities that exceeded revenue and market share targets for the company.  Sinclair also played a key role in supporting the successful integration of New Focus into Bookham Inc. after the acquisition in 2004.

Prior to his career at Lucent, Sinclair held various product marketing and manufacturing positions at UK-based Hewlett Packard Ltd. within the Fiber Optics Components division from 1994 – 1998.  He also served as a research engineer at Plessey Research (Caswell) from 1991 – 1994, with a focus on coherent optical communications.

Sinclair received an MBA from Open University in Milton Keynes, England, and has a BSc in Physics with Honors from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.  He currently resides in California with his wife and two children, and speaks both French and German fluently.

Mali Venkatesan, Ph. D.

Research Manager, IDC

Dr. Mali Venkatesan manages IDC’s research practices for the Intelligent Systems ecosystem in the Automotive, Industrial, and Wireless Communications market segments.  He also develops, manages, and delivers IDC’s Semiconductor Vendor Market Share and Company View as well as its Semiconductor Applications Forecaster.  In addition, provides consulting services in semiconductor process technologies, mergers and acquisitions & IPOs, and strategic marketing.

Dr. Venkatesan is a semiconductor industry veteran with extensive experience in market research, market and technology assessment, business development, leading-edge semiconductor processes and technologies, emerging semiconductor applications, semiconductor devices, and semiconductor process equipment. His key strengths include international business development and driving strategic customer-focused programs. He also has a strong knowledge of semiconductor technology roadmaps for all key devices, including microprocessors, DRAM, NAND Flash, analog and mixed-signal, and SoC devices. Prior to joining IDC in 2010, Dr. Mali Venkatesan was with Applied Materials and Philips Consumer Electronics. Dr. Venkatesan holds an M.B.A. (Finance) from Santa Clara University and a Ph.D. (Chemical Engineering) from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).
